US Media Expert Visits University Of Ulster

A top US media expert has delivered a keynote speech at the University of Ulster's second Distinguished International Visitors Address (DIVA).

Speaking at the university's Belfast campus, the former CBS broadcast executive and United States Congressional press secretary, Professor Michael Freedman, offered insights into new media trends and the dynamics employed in President Obama's election campaign.

Dr Diane Hazlett, host of the DIVA series and Head of the School of Communication at the University of Ulster, (pictured here on right launching the event with US Consul General Susan Elliott and Peter McKittrick, Public Affairs Specialist with the US Consulate) said: "Through the DIVA link up, staff, students and local communication professionals have the chance to gain knowledge, critical insight and 'How To' tactics from some of the very best communicators and academics in the world.

"We are fortunate to have in Professor Michael Freedman a prestigious industry leader to participate in our upcoming DIVA events in NI."

Professor Freedman, Director of the Global Media Institute at George Washington University, said: "I am honoured to be selected as a University of Ulster DIVA and have the opportunity to visit Northern Ireland for the first time to share my communications, journalism and media experiences and professional perspectives."

Also introducing this second DIVA event, Northern Ireland-born, Visiting Professor Tony R. Culley-Foster, President of CFCO International, Washington DC, said: "The success of the DIVA programme is contributing to, and further enhancing, the global reputation of the School of Communication and the University."

Now in its second year, the DIVA programme invites leading global experts to share their knowledge, experiences, tactical and strategic advice with Northern Ireland's higher education students, faculty, government, business, civic and voluntary sector leaders to help them enhance their local, regional and international communications skills.
