Omagh College has successfully hosted this year's Skillbuild NI competition which drew interest from many of the country's top apprentices and business leaders.
The competition, which aims to develop and promote a positive image of the construction industry among young people, had a record 114 of the top apprentices throughout Northern Ireland competing to win coveted titles in 12 different construction crafts.
Among the crafts which saw the glare of competition were plumbing, carpentry, machine woodworking, joinery, painting and decorating.
Commenting on the competition, Kevin Chambers, Chairman of Skillbuild NI, said: "We believe that through skills competitions we have an opportunity not only to demonstrate the high level of skills that young people can achieve, but we can also continue to improve the standards of young apprentices across all construction crafts for the future benefit of the industry.
"This competition makes a real difference to the skills development and future aspirations of young people working towards a career in the construction industry," Mr Chambers added.
This year's Skillbuild NI has received widespread support within the trades' industry, employers, unions and local government. Of particular support were the Construction Industry Training Board, Department for Employment and Learning, City and Guilds, colleges and employers, such as Gilbert Ash, H&J Martin, Farrans and Makita. Ms Carragher was appointed through an open competition run by the Department of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) which has overall responsibility for UK Lottery Matters.
