Sixtieth Road Death Blights NI

There have now been 60 people killed on NI roads this year.

The grim milestone was reached on Sunday when an 18-year-old woman died after the car she was travelling in was in collision with a lorry just before midday yesterday.

The incident happened on New Line road in Carrickfergus. The young woman was last night named as Erin Egalson from Ballyclare.

Two men, aged 21 and 31, were taken to hospital after the collision with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

The 21-year-old man is understood to be the driver of the car and the 31-year-old man the driver of the lorry.

The New Line road was closed for some time after the incident.

Meanwhile, a top Belfast hospital is being used to treat a victim of a road accident in the Irish Republic.

After three men had been injured in the crash in Co Donegal, one them was transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. His condition is not known.

The accident happened at Carnagarve near Moville shortly after 7.30pm on Sunday. One vehicle was involved.
