Murder Accused Appears In Court

A man accused of fatally stabbing his own nephew earlier this week has been in court.

The 46-year-old man, Samuel Francis Morrison, who has an address in Duncairn Gardens, appeared in the dock at Belfast's Laganside Magistrates' Court (pictured above) this morning over the murder.

He was charged last night with murdering a homeless man found stabbed to death on a street in Belfast.

A detective inspector told the court that while the defendant accepted responsibility for the death of his nephew, he said it was in self-defence.

George Morrison, 29, was discovered lying in Brookhill Avenue in the north of the city in the early hours of Monday.

The accused spoke only to confirm he understood the charge against him. He was remanded in custody.

He was arrested after police searched two flats at Duncairn Gardens shortly after the killing.
