'Significant' SF Meeting Gets Underway
Sinn Féin's leadership is holding a 'summit' in the Republic today, following a series of party resignations and a disappointing performance at the European polls.
The party's Vice President Mary Lou McDonald lost her MEP seat in June, amid worse than expected local council election results across Ireland.
Today's meeting in Meath is set to focus on these issues, and has been described as "a significant meeting".
Sinn Féin was earlier accused of "meaning nothing" to the bulk of voters in the Irish Republic, with suggestions that it is was purely seen as a northern party.
A Kerry councillor, Toireasa Ferris added that Sinn Féin "has nothing to offer the electorate".
In recent weeks several high-profile members have withdrawn their support for the party, including Dublin councillor Christy Burke and Wexford councillor John Dwyer.
Louise Minihan, who also resigned, said the party had moved away from its "republican values".
Gerry Adams said this afternoon's meeting would focus on the Lisbon Treaty, devolution of policing and justice powers to Stormont, and other outstanding matters.

UUP cancel Ruling Council meeting
A meeting of the Ulster Unionist Party's Ruling Council has been cancelled because of a failure to reach a deal with republicans. Party officers met at Cunningham House on Monday night and decided to call off the meeting which was due to take place on Wednesday in the Ramada Hotel in Belfast.
