Man to appear in court over alleged dual stabbing

A teenage boy has been stabbed after rescuing a woman who was knifed during an alleged car hijacking attempt in County Londonderry.

The 16-year-old boy was getting off a bus in the city late on Monday April 1 when he saw the woman being attacked.

The woman was sitting in her car when a man, armed with a knife, approached and threatened her. He ordered her to get out of the car and then he grabbed her by the shoulder and stabbed her in the left arm.

The teenager went to the woman’s aid and then chased the attacker, catching up with him near the Metro Bar in Bank Place. During a struggle, he was stabbed in the thigh.

The attacker ran off and was again chased by the youth.

With the help of a taxi driver, they caught the attacker near a taxi stand on William Street and held him there until the police arrived.

Police have since charged a man in connection with the alleged assault. A 22-year-old is expected to appear before Limavady Magistrates Court on Wednesday to face two charges of malicious wounding and one of threatening to kill. He is also charged with attempting to hijack a vehicle.
