Belfast City Hall Celebrated
The City Hall in Belfast is getting ready to rock!
A top programme of events is being lined up to encourage residents from all parts of Belfast to celebrate the reopening of the City Hall.
Public services will return to the iconic building in October and a line-up of celebrations is scheduled to begin on 17 October.
Highlights include an opening parade and carnival, a family fun day, school workshops and daily cinema screenings of classic movies.
Tours focusing on the city's music, literary, art and architectural heritage will be held throughout the schedule with a range of multi-cultural celebrations too.
Music from Oppenheimer, Mojo, Fury and the Benjamins will be showcased at a Music Night on 17 October. This will be an 'all ages' gig recorded by BBC's Across the Line.
Pianist Barry Douglas and Camerata Ireland will also perform a classical concert on 25 October as part of Ulster Bank Festival at Queen's.
Full details of the celebration events are contained in the latest edition of City Matters, the Belfast City Council magazine being delivered free to ratepayers across the city this week.
Tickets for most events are available from 1st September and can be booked through Belfast Welcome Centre in Donegall Place (tel 028 9024 6609).
Said Lord Mayor, Cllr Naomi Long: "This programme of public celebration reflects the ethos of 'A City Hall for All’'where the welcome mat is always out to local residents and visitors.
"In celebrating the reopening of this iconic Belfast building we have pulled together a wide range of activities offering affordable fun for all, and bringing people in from all parts of the city," she said.

The Chairman of Belfast City Council’s Good Relations Steering Panel has challenged claims that the Council is not supporting St Patrick’s Day in Belfast. It follows a protest outside Belfast City Hall last week by the St Patrick's Carnival Committee who claim the Council isn't funding this year's event at the City Hall.

Primark Donates £500,000 To Support Businesses Affected By Fire
Retailer Primark is donating £500,000 to Belfast City Council's City Recovery Investment Fund. The fund is being set up after a number of businesses have been severely affected by the fire at the Bank Buildings which happened over three weeks ago. A cordon remains in place and 14 firms have been closed for up to four months.

Irish Heritage Celebrated At City Hall
A new painting, celebrating Irish culture, heritage and history in Belfast, will be unveiled at the City Hall this evening. The painting, which celebrates five people who have made a significant contribution to Irish culture and language, both in Belfast and beyond, will be unveiled by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Pat Convery.
