Consumers Get New Guardians

The appointment of five new members to the Board of the General Consumer Council for Northern Ireland has been announced.

NI Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster said that Deirdre Fitzpatrick, Jill Gillespie, Scott Kennerley, Dr Margaret Ward and Lee Wilson will each serve for a period of three years, having taken up their posts on 1 August 2009.

Welcoming the appointments, Arlene Foster said: "Mrs Fitzpatrick, Mrs Gillespie, Mr Kennerley, Dr Ward and Mr Wilson have taken up their role as Board members of the Consumer Council at a challenging economic time in Northern Ireland.

"The wide range of skills and talents which they bring to the Board will be of undoubted value to the Council, as it pursues its aim of championing and safeguarding the interests of consumers in Northern Ireland," she said, also announcing the retirement of David Mann, having completed his second term of three years as a Board member.

Arlene Foster Letter On Same-Sex Marriage Released
A letter Arlene Foster wrote to the Scottish Government has been released asking that it restrict gay couples from Northern Ireland converting their same sex marriages in Scotland. The letter was signed by the DUP Leader and was sent when she was Finance Minister in 2015.

New Board Members Appointed To NI Screen
The appointment of eight new Board Members to NI Screen has been announced. Following open competition, Michael Catto, Adeline Dinsmore, Jennifer Johnston, Michael Kuhn, Fiona MacMillan, Aódán Mac Póilin, Laurence McKeown and Ian Parsley have been appointed as Board Members.
