Edward Is Royal Guest At Hillsborough

Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, the Countess of Wessex have arrived in Northern Ireland.

They are guests of honour at a garden party in Hillsborough Castle that is being hosted by the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.

The couple were greeted by David Lindsay Lord-Lieutenant of Co Down and went on to meet David Corbett, Co Down's Sheriff and Owen Paterson, in his role as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.

In the Rose Garden they also met the Deputy Chief Constable of the PSNI, Judith Gillespie and a number of police officers and their guests.

They also met Brigadier Edward Smyth-Osbourne Commander 38 (Irish) Brigade and a number of personnel serving in Northern Ireland and their guests.

The band of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, provided the guests with musical accompaniment as the Secretary of State then invited the couple to plant a tree to commemorate the visit.

The royal pair are expected to spend the afternoon at the Garden Party and meet many of the 2,000 invited guests representing a broad cross-section of the community.

Man Dies Following Collision Near Belfast International Airport
A man from the Republic of Ireland who was struck by a car near Belfast International Airport on Saturday, 19 November, has died from his injuries, according to the police. John Fitzgerald, from Kilmacthomas in Waterford, died from his injuries after he was involved in a collision with a car near the Ballyrobin Guest House just before 4.50pm.
