MoD Names 300th Afghan Victim
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has named the 300th member of the UK forces to die after being injured in a blast in Afghanistan.
Marine Richard Hollington, 23, from Bravo Company, 40 Commando Royal Marines died as a results of the wounds on Sunday.
During the late afternoon of Saturday 12 June, Bravo Company was conducting a reassurance patrol in Afghanistan for the local nationals in an area to the South of Patrol Base.
At approximately 4pm, Marine Hollington was caught in an explosion. He was immediately evacuated to Bastion Role III Hospital where his condition was listed as critical.
On 13 June he was transferred to the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham where he has since died.
In a statement, the Hollington family said he would leave "a huge numbing hole in the lives of his family, friends and Royal Marine colleagues".
They said: "The saying goes, 'It is better to live one day as a lion than your whole life as a worm'.
"He chose to live his days as a lion and to us, and we believe his friends, he was the biggest, if softest, lion in the pride - how proud of him we all are.
"It was typical of Richard, and a crumb of comfort to us, that even in death he donated his organs to help others in accordance with his wishes."

Royal Marine Trainee Dies During 30-Mile March
A Royal Marine trainee has died following an exercise in Dartmoor. The man, who has not been named, collapsed during a 30-mile march at the weekend. He is understood to have been based at the Commando Training Centre at Lympstone, Devon. The cause of his death is unknown.

Royal Marine killed in Afghanistan named
The Ministry of Defence has named the Royal Marine killed in Afghanistan on Sunday as Lance Corporal Michael Jones. LCpl Jones was killed in a gun battle with Taliban insurgents in the Nimruz province in the southwest of the country.

Marine killed in Afghanistan named
The Royal Marine killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday has been named as Benjamin Reddy. Marine Reddy, 22, from K Company, 42 Commando Royal Marines, was killed when his unit came under fire during a deliberate clearance operation in the Kajaki area of Helmand Province.

British serviceman killed in Afghanistan
A British serviceman has been killed in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed. The MoD said that the soldier died in the Helmand Province in Afghanistan on Monday morning. It is believed that the soldier was taking part in an attack on an insurgent base in the southern province.
