Firm Guilty In Meath Bus Crash
One of the two companies on trial over the Meath bus crash at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has pleaded guilty to a charge arising from it.
Keltank Ltd, based in Balbriggan in Dublin, was responsible for servicing the bus involved in the accident, which happened just over three years ago.
On Tuesday the court heard the company pleaded guilty to a new charge that on 5 May 2005 at Carriage Road in Navan, it was aware leads connecting the anti-lock breaking system were disconnected and failed to ascertain whether there was a hazard before returning the bus to its driver.
Sonya Kelly, Company Secretary, pleaded guilty on behalf of Keltank Ltd of Balbriggan, that being aware the ABS sensor leads were disconnected it failed to ensure whether a hazard arose before returning the bus to the driver, John Hubble, on May 5, 2005.
At the court last Friday, Mr Hubble said he was never told his bus was fitted with an anti-locking brake system.
Five teenage girls were killed in the crash.
The jury are now hearing the evidence against the one remaining defendant, McArdles Test Centre, Coe's Road, Dundalk.

Dublin bus drivers are expected to decide today whether or not they will accept proposals for a company cost savings plan. The ballot began on Thursday and will conclude today. The result is expected to be announced this evening (16 August) following a count in Liberty Hall, Dublin.
