Three Held Over City Banker Death

Detectives investigating the murder of a city banker, who was killed attempting to break up a street brawl, have arrested three people.

Frank McGarahan, 45, was Chief Operating Officer of a major banking institution and was waiting for a taxi beside the Guildhall Hill rank in Norwich at 3am on Sunday when he saw two people being assaulted. He was badly beaten when he intervened in the street fight.

However, his injuries were so serious he was immediately transferred to a specialist head injuries unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where the father of two died.

Police arrested three people all aged in their early 20s on Tuesday. They are being held at police stations across Norfolk.

Norfolk Police said Mr McGarahan was killed after he came to the aid of a 35-year-old Lithuanian man who was being attacked while he walked with his girlfriend and his dog.

A bouncer who worked at a nearby strip club also suffered a broken jaw when he tried to help Mr Mcgarahan.

Mr McGarahan was in charge of Barclay's Wealth, which employs 7,700 staff, and manages the assets of some of the world's most wealthy people.
