Ards School Dispute Rumbles On

An industrial dispute rumbled on today at a Co Down school, which has been closed for most of the week.

Talks are set to continue at the Labour Relations Agency between both sides in the Movilla High School strike today.

Teachers at the Newtownards school have been on the picket line since Monday.

The dispute in Ards continues after the principal docked teachers' wages when some members of staff refused to teach a child, who had allegedly assaulted one of their colleagues.

School governors decided not to expel the boy, a move supported by the Education Board, which said the incident had been "appropriately and proportionately dealt with".

Talks held yesterday between the South Eastern Education Library Board and the NAS/UWT union broke-up, after nine hours, without finding a way forward.

The union has agreed not to speak to the media any further on the matter.

Classes at the school are still suspended indefinitely.
