Appeals Follow Cash In Transit Robberies

Two separate cash in transit robberies that took place yesterday have sparked appeals for witnesses to come forward.

In the latest incident, Gardaí have launched an investigation into a robbery from a security man who was in the process of collecting cash from a shop at Century Business Park, Meakstown, Dublin, at about 2pm yesterday.

Two men attacked the employee of the cash in transit company with what is believed to be a crow bar and grabbed a cash box. They made their escape on foot towards the Charlestown estate.

Gardaí said one of the males was tall and thin, and wearing an orange rain jacket with grey tracksuit bottoms. The second man, was smaller, about 5'9'', and was wearing a dark jacket, a grey cap and dark trousers.

Gardaí in Finglas are investigating the robbery and are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them on 01 666 7500.

Shortly before that incident, Gardai in Ashbourne were called to the robbery of a cash in transit van at Ratoath, County Meath.

At approximately 8.30am, two armed males held up security men as they serviced an ATM machine at a shopping centre in Ratoath Village. The men escaped with a quantity of cash.

Gardai are appealing for anyone who observed a white Peugeot Partner Van in the vicinity of Ratoath Village prior to 8.30am yesterday.

There we no injuries during the course of the robbery and enquiries are ongoing.

Meanwhile, in the North, the NIO Security Minister Paul Goggins is to meet members of the NI Independent Retail Trade Association later to discuss the recent spate of ATM raids across the border.

The delegation includes owners who have been the victim of recent robberies - Declan McCabe from Newtownbutler and Philip Campbell from Kells.

It is the first time the Minister has met victims of such robberies.

Making the announcement on Monday, Brinks Ireland said it would end the operations by the end of July. Witnesses Sought To Cash-In-Transit Van Robbery
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a cash-in-transit robbery at La Touche Road, Bluebell, Dublin on Thursday afternoon. It is understood that at approximately 3:35pm, two men approached and threatened security staff as they were delivering cash to a Post Office. One of the robbers is believed to have been armed with a handgun.
