Road Toll Mounts As Two-Year-Old Dies

There was further tragedy on the roads yesterday as a two-year-old boy, a woman and a man in his 70s were killed in three separate road crashes.

The child, Conor Conroy, from Clondalkin, Dublin, was fatally injured when he was struck by a van at approximately 5.30pm on Tuesday evening on Deansrath Avenue, Clondalkin.

He was pronounced dead in an ambulance while being taken to Tallaght Hospital.

The woman - named as Geraldine Bugler, 58, and from Woodford, Co Galway - was killed when her car crashed on the Woodford to Portumna Road at Drumnamuckla in Co Galway at 3.45pm.

She was the only occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has been taken to Portiuncula Hospital.

The man was Tim Walsh, 79, from Tralee, Co Kerry, who died after his car collided with a truck between Castleisland and Abbeyfeale at 2.45pm.

The accident happened on the N21 near Headley's Bridge, in Co Kerry.

The driver of the truck has been taken to Kerry General Hospital, Tralee.

Renewed Appeal After Fatal Road Crash In Kildare
Gardai are renewing their appeal for witnesses after a man died in a fatal road crash in Co Kildare. The man, aged in his 50s, was killed after his motorcycle collided with a Isuzu 4x4 on the R445 at around 2.15pm on Friday, 17 August. He was pronounced dead at Naas General Hospital. The man in the other vehicle was also taken to hospital.

Gardai Appeal For Witnesses To Fatal Road Accident
Gardaí in Co Wexford have appealed for witnesses to a fatal road accident on the N25 at Kilmacree. A woman in her 20s was killed when her car collided with another vehicle at about 12:25 on Sunday. The male driver and female passenger in the other car, both in their 50s, were seriously injured and were also taken to Wexford General Hospital.

Witnesses Sought Following Fatal Road Accident In Co Louth
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a fatal road accident in Collon, Co Louth. The single vehicle road accident happened at about 1am on Tuesday morning close to Brannigan's Cross on the Collon to Tinure Road. A 32-year-old man, the sole occupant of the car, suffered serious injuries when his car left the road and struck a ditch.

Truckers Withdraw Threats Of Further Protests
Truckers from the Irish Road Haulage Association has withdrawn threats of further protests. The Department of Transport has agreed for a meeting with Minister Noonan, Minister Donohoe and Minister Kelly to reach a satisfactory solution to the current HGV road tax issue. A date for a meeting is to be confirmed.
