RAF Serviceman Killed in Helmand Blast

A member of the Royal Air Force has been killed in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.

The serviceman died while on patrol close to Camp Bastion, in Helmand Province. It is believed he was caught up in an explosion near to the UK army's largest base.

The death of the serviceman - who served with 34 Squadron RAF Regiment - was described as a "true loss" by Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson, of Task Force Helmand. His death brings the number of British fatalities in the conflict to 219.

The dead man's family have been informed.

RAF regiments are charged with protecting air bases from attacks to ensure flights can take off and land safely.

Soldier Dies In Southern Afghanistan
A British soldier has been killed in an explosion in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has said. The serviceman from the 2nd Battalion the Mercian Regiment was on an operation near Garmsir in Helmand Province, and next of kin have been informed.

The Ministry of Defence has announced an airman from the Royal Air Force Regiment was killed in Afghanistan on Monday. The airman was killed by small arms fire whilst on a routine partnered patrol in the Nad 'Ali district of Helmand province.

British Serviceman Killed In Afghan Blast
A British soldier has been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed. The serviceman, from the Light Dragoons, died in a blast near Gereshk in Helmand Province, southern Afghanistan, on Tuesday night. The MoD said next of kin have been informed.

Welsh Soldier Killed In Helmand
A soldier from 2nd Battalion The Royal Welsh has been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan. The soldier died in a blast while on vehicle patrol in the Musa Qal'eh District in northern Helmand Province at the weekend and his death means 218 British soldiers have now died during the war in Afghanistan.

REME Soldier Killed In Afghan Blast
A soldier from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers has been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan's Helmand province, the Ministry of Defence confirmed today. The soldier, operating with The Light Dragoons Battle Group, died whilst on a vehicle move in the Babaji district yesterday evening.
