Jail For Manchester Rapist

A man convicted of a number of 'historic' sex offences against a young girl was today jailed for six years.

Paul William Murphy, 48, from Moss Side, was found guilty of rape and sexual assault at Manchester Crown Court Crown Square.

He has been sentenced to serve six years for rape and four years for sexual assault to run concurrently.

Murphy was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life.

Over a period of about six years, from 1983, Murphy repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted a girl, who was just 10-years-old when the abuse began.

The attacks happened at a house in Chorlton.

Detective Constable Roger Jones, from the Child Abuse Investigation Team, said: "Over a period of many years Murphy repeatedly subjected his victim, who was a young girl, to the most horrific ordeal.

"He is clearly a very sick and dangerous individual who abused his victim for his own sexual gratification.

"I hope this conviction will help, in some small way, put the terrible experiences behind her."
