'Super-Obese' Man Hits Transport Snags

Heath workers in Suffolk are facing problems over how to transport a 70-stone man who needs life-saving treatment to another county.

Paul Mason, 48, from Ipswich is classed as 'super-obese' and needs to travel to a hospital in Chichester, West Sussex, for the specialist treatment.

A number of travel options have been considered for Mr Mason, reportedly including an airlift from an RAF Chinook helicopter.

A spokesperson from Suffolk Primary Care Trust said that Mr Mason would probably be transported via road in a specialist ambulance.

Safer Transport At Night Campaign Launched
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) Cab Enforcement Unit, part of the Transport for London (TfL) funded Safer Transport Command (STC), have made more than 100 arrests in a bid to tackle illegal cab drivers in London. As part of the Operation Safer Travel at Night (STaN), officers increased night-time patrols over three weekends.

BTP Release CCTV Images Of Man Wanted In Racist Attack Investigation
The British Transport Police (BTP) have released CCTV images of a man wanted in connection with an racist attack on a Glasgow-Edinburgh train. They say that on 28 August a man attacked a female passenger on the 22:30 Glasgow Queen Street train travelling to Edinburgh.

Rise in crack users sent for treatment
More crack users are being targeted in custody and referred to drug treatment services, a new report published by the Home Office claims. The 'Arrest Referral' report shows that between October 2001 and September 2002, 12,014 crack users were interviewed, and of those 8,656 were referred to specialist drug treatment services - 18.

Met Cops 'Get On Their Bikes'
A new, 30-strong Police Cycle Task Force hit the streets of London today, as the police force, the Mayor and Transport for London (TfL) published a draft plan for tackling cycle theft and vandalism in the capital. The Task Force forms part of the Metropolitan Police Service's Safer Transport Command team and is funded by TfL.
