Flood Alerts As Heavy Rains Sweep In

Several parts of the UK are on flood alert after heavy rain caused chaos in several areas of the country.

Scotland was particularly badly affected, with Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire seeing some of the worst of the flooding after a river burst its banks, while all the main routes in and out of Arbroath in Angus - including the railway line from Edinburgh to Aberdeen - were impassable.

Huntly in Grampian was also badly affected. More than 100 elderly care home residents had to be moved after a river burst its banks and a number of properties in the north of the area are reportedly affected by flooding.

Many roads are closed, with reports of landslides in Arbroath and Brechin, while some rail services have also been affected.

The weekend's football fixtures were also affected, with the Scottish Premier League match between Dundee United and Rangers being called off at half-time due to a water-logged pitch.

Meanwhile, in Wales, thirteen people had to be rescued from houses and cars on Sunday because of the torrential rain.

Thirteen flood warnings - three of which are severe- have been issued in Scotland, with six warnings also in place across northern England.
