Appeal Over Bus Stop Attack

Police have appealed for information after a 56-year-old North Shields man was attacked while standing at a bus shelter.

The incident happened on the bus stop on the west bound slip road linking the A1058 Coast Road with Norham Road in North Shields on Monday at around 7.10pm.

While the man was waiting at the bus stop two men in their 20s engaged him in conversation and then one of the young men punched him twice in the face.

The man suffered minor facial injuries and his glasses, valued at £100, were broken.

Police said the assailants made off on foot.

"They are both described as in their early 20s, six feet tall and stocky build - in addition one had a skinhead style haircut, with what is described as a 'podgy' face," said a spokesman for Northumbria Police.
