Taliban Did Kill Troops

It has now emerged that the soldiers shot dead by a 'rogue' Afghan policeman at a checkpoint in Helmand Province on Tuesday were targeted by the Taliban. The group has now claimed responsibility for the deadly attack that killed five and also left six injured. Yesterday the killer was though to have been motivated by a disagreement with his commander, but after Prime Minister Gordon Brown told the Commons this was not the case, a statement from the insurgents confirmed they carried out the atrocity.

Robbers Sought

Flying Squad detectives are hunting armed robbers, who raided a south London pub just before closing time. Four men burst into the Duke of Edinburgh pub, Ferndale Road, Brixton, just after 2am in the early hours of Saturday morning (October 31). They were armed with handguns and one had a knife. They demanded money from the tills and robbed several customers of personal belongings, but nobody was injured. The suspects are described as black and aged in their mid to late twenties.

Puppies Drowned

The bodies of eight Labrador puppies have been discovered dumped in Kent, the RSPCA has revealed. Inspectors said they were trying to find out who left the dead dogs, all about 12 weeks old, in a hedgerow in Wrotham Heath, near Sevenoakes. The animals, three chocolate coloured, three golden and two black, are thought to have been drowned. The RCPCA think the dogs were all from the same litter and have appealed for information.

E.ON Harness Wind

Energy company E.ON has announced plans to build a new wind farm near to Kirkby Lonsdale, on the county border between Lancashire and Cumbria. At around 20 MW the proposed Longfield Tarn wind farm would be made up of around nine turbines and could provide enough power to supply up to 9,000 homes with power for up to a year and displace approximately 19,000 tonnes of CO2. E.ON has submitted the scoping statement to Lancaster City Council and other interested parties outlining its plans, and intends to submit a full planning application in 2010.
