Sex Appeal fails

A woman who was banned from making loud noises during sex has lost an appeal against her conviction. Caroline and Steve Cartwright's love making was described as "murder" and "unnatural" at Newcastle Crown Court. Mrs Cartwright, 48, from Washington on Wearside, lost the appeal against a conviction for breaching a noise abatement notice. Mrs Cartwright appealed against the conviction using Article 8 of the Human Rights Act to argue she had a right to "respect for her private and family life". In April, she was also given a four-year Asbo banning her from making excessive noise anywhere in England. She is accused of breaching that order and will now stand trial for that offence.

Jobs Checked Out

Sainsbury's is to create about 200 jobs in Ceredigion as part of a £50m project to build a supermarket, a GPs' surgery, a hospital and flats. The firm said it was delighted to be part of Cardigan's Bath House project. As part of the first phase of the work, 48 flats for people aged 55 and over are being built, which is expected to be finished by Christmas 2010. The proposal was given planning permission in 2006, but a dispute over a strip of land had delayed it. The Bath House project is expected to create a total of 600 jobs.

The fire service in Scotland has issued a safety warning after a rooftop rescue. A teenage girl slipped and injured her arm on Friday night after scaling a 50ft-high (15m) commercial building near the Lockerbie Road in Dumfries. Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service used aerial ladders to allow paramedics to reach the girl. Emergency services were called to the scene at about 9.30pm on Friday after the girl had slipped and injured herself after climbing to the top of the property.
