Five Men Arrested Under Terrorism Act

Five men have been arrested under the Terrorism Act following raids in Manchester and Bolton.

The arrests took place in a co-ordinated operation starting at 4am this morning.

Three addresses in Manchester and one in Bolton are currently being searched.

The raids took place in Stockport Road, Levenshulme, Victoria Terrace, Longsight,

Bowdon Avenue, Fallowfield and Willows Lane, Deane, Bolton.

Around 40 officers were involved in the raids which are believed to be related to an alleged overseas threat.

The Greater Manchester Police said people living in nearby communities will see a high profile police presence during the day and will be able to discuss issues with local officers.

Five arrested in anti-terror raids
Five men have been arrested under the Terrorism Act in a series of anti-terror raids in West Yorkshire and Manchester. Two men, aged 29 and 25, were arrested in dawn raids in Halifax, carried out by officers from the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command and West Yorkshire Police.

Walkers Find Body Of A Baby
The body of a baby, thought to be a newborn, has been found by walkers in the Ox Hey Lane area of Lostock, Bolton, Greater Manchester on Thursday afternoon. It is understood that it is not yet known how long the baby had been there or how it died. A post-mortem examination is expected to take place on Monday.

Fire Fighters Hurt As Bolton House Fire Kills Woman
Three fire fighters have been injured - one of them being seriously burned - as they rescued an elderly woman from a house fire in Bolton. The 71-year-old victim later died, but three other people's lives were saved after being rescued from the blaze, a man in his 70s, a 24-year-old woman and a five-year-old girl.

Man Utd dismisses terror target speculation
Manchester United football club has dismissed reports suggesting that Old Trafford may have been a target for suicide bombers. The club spoke out after news reports linked yesterday's massive anti-terror swoops by police with a possible suicide bomb attack on the Man Utd home ground.

Police carry out anti-terror raids across UK
Nine men and one woman have been arrested following police raids at a number of addresses in England this morning. Seven of those arrested, including the woman, were detained in the Manchester area, three others were held following raids in Staffordshire, South Yorkshire and the West Midlands.
