Museum 'Into Touch'

The National Football Museum is to move its main base to Manchester, but hopes to keep a presence at its current Lancashire site, said officials. Controversial plans to leave Preston North End's Deepdale stadium and move to Manchester's Urbis museum were revealed in October. Mark Demody, the museum's Chairman, said a "public face" would be retained in the city if funding can be secured. Storage of the 34,000-item collection and the back-of-house operations are to remain in Lancashire.

Wales Blaze Fatal

A man has died after a fire at a house in Llandudno, Conwy. North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to the property in Brookes Street at 10.40am on Wednesday. The fire crews were alerted to blackened windows and smoke coming from the two-storey terraced house. They found the body of a man, around 50, in the heavily smoke-logged property. A full fire investigation is now under way.

Sex Murders Alleged

A man and woman are to stand trial accused of murdering an insurance broker in Aberdeen after luring him with an offer of prostitution. Paul Balgowan and Julie Carroll, both 24, are accused of murdering Alan Bennett, 56, from Cove, in May. It is alleged they persuaded Mr Bennett to go with Ms Carroll "for the purposes of prostitution" then took his wallet and stabbed him to death. They are due to face trial at the High Court in Aberdeen next year.

Tube Injuries

Three commuters were injured when they were struck by part of a London Underground train. Two women, aged 17 and 37, were treated in hospital for facial lacerations and head injuries following the incident at Mile End on Tuesday. A plastic barrier between carriages broke and hit the commuters when the train entered the east London station. A Transport for London (TfL) spokesman said it is investigating the incident and described it as "very rare".

POs Strike Ends

Unofficial strike action among hundreds of prison officers in England has been called off after officers at HMP Liverpool agreed to return to work. Hundreds had been on a picket line yesterday outside HMP Liverpool on a second day of unofficial action over claims of bullying and harassment. They were joined by staff from jails in Lancashire, Cheshire and Dorset who walked out on Tuesday. The Prison Officers' Association (POA) confirmed officers would be returning.
