Witnesses Sought Over Mystery Death
Police in London are appealing for information and witnesses following the unexplained death of a 30-year-old man.
Police were called by a member of the public at around 3am on 9 November to reports of a man collapsed in Cleveland Way, E1.
Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and discovered a man unconscious. He was treated at the scene before being taken to an east London hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4.29am.
While formal identification has yet to take place, police are confident the deceased is Jozef Alexy, 30, a Slovakian national of no fixed abode, whose next-of-kin have been informed.
A post mortem examination carried out at the Royal London Hospital on 10 November was inconclusive. An inquest opened at Poplar Coroner's Court on 12 November and has been adjourned until 15 December.
Officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command, based at Lewisham, are investigating
Investigating officer DI Clive Heys said: "Mr Alexy's death is currently being treated as unexplained and we are appealing to anyone with information that can assist this investigation to contact us.
"Mr Alexy was involved in an altercation in Cleveland Way at about 2.50am, shortly before his death. CCTV enquiries have established two people walked down the street at the time of the altercation and may be able to provide important information. We are still keen to trace these people.
"Were you in the area of Cleveland Way at around 2.50am on 9 November? Did you see the altercation taking place? If so, we would like to hear from you."
Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 0208 721 4868 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
