PM Will Give Iraq Evidence Pre-Election
Gordon Brown will give evidence to the Iraq inquiry within the next two months it was confirmed today.
This means the Prime Minister is very likely to appear in front of the panel before the next General Election.
Political opponents had called for Mr Brown to submit his account of the lead up the Iraq invasion prior to national polling day - expected to take place in May.
Sir John Chilcot, who is leading the inquiry, said the PM had agreed to appear "within the next two months".
Responding to an earlier letter from Mr Brown, stating he would appear at any given time, Sir John wrote: "As a matter of fairness, the committee has concluded that it should offer, if you wish to take it up, the opportunity for you to attend hearings before the election."
Downing Street has continued to insist Mr Brown has "nothing to hide".
It was also revealed Foreign Secretary David Miliband, a close ally of Mr Brown's predecessor Tony Blair, could also give evidence before the election.
This week Justice Secretary Jack Straw became the first serving Cabinet member to appear before the panel in London.
He followed ex-defence secretary Geoff Hoon, who slighted Mr Brown in his evidence.
He said the PM, who was Chancellor of the Exchequer during the build up to the war, sanctioned budget cuts, which left the military ill-prepared for battle.
Conservative leader David Cameron said Mr Brown had some "very important questions to answer".
"I am glad they are going to be asked and answered before a general election," he said

Liberal Democrats have called on PM Gordon Brown to publicly submit evidence to the Iraq Inquiry prior to the General Election. Lib Dem Leader Nick Clegg said the electorate was "entitled" to know the then chancellor's role in the invasion. Mr Brown, who "signed the cheques" for war, said he would appear whenever the Chilcot inquiry requested.

Millionairess Husband In Court
A British Airways Pilot who has been charged with the murder of his millionairess wife, will appear in court later today. Joanna Brown, 46, who ran an award-winning bed and breakfast, went missing from her £3m country mansion on Monday morning. Robert Brown, 46, of Ascot, is suspected of killing his wife. The mother-of-two is yet to be found.

Appeal Issued For Missing 86-Year-Old Woman
Police in Lambeth have appealed for help in tracing 86-year-old Shelagh McMaster. Ms McMaster was last seen in Prioress Road, West Norwood, at about 13:00 on Monday, 10 August. When she was last seen she was wearing dark trousers, possibly wearing open toe sandals or laced brown shoes.
