Mum Held After Kids Found Dead

The bodies of two young children have been found in a car in Heathfield, East Sussex.

The children's mother is receiving medical treatment for apparent self-harm injuries.

It is believed she made the call to police.

Officers are now waiting to question her over the deaths. She has been named locally as 43-year-old Fiona Donnison.

Officers broke into a car in Mill Close before noon yesterday to find the boy and girl, both under five, dead.

A post mortem examination will be carried out on the children to establish a cause of death.

According to reports, the girl was two years old and the boy was three.

Police in Sussex said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the killings.

Chief Superintendent Robin Smith said it was believed the woman lived in Surrey but had connections with Heathfield.

A silver Nissan car has been removed from the scene, while a police cordon remains around a three-storey detached house in Sheepsetting Lane.

The house has a sold sign placed outside it.

Sussex Police have informed family members of the deaths.
