Manchester Cannabis Seizure

More than 700 cannabis plants have been recovered in Leigh, Greater Manchester.

A warrant was executed at a flat on Chapel Street in the town in Tuesday afternoon.

Police found a cannabis farm with 708 plants concealed behind walls, as well as equipment used to grow the drugs.

Inquiries to trace the occupants of the flat are underway, a police spokesman said.

Neighbourhood Inspector Ian Kennedy, said: "Every effort had been made to hide these plants but the overwhelming smell proved too strong to conceal.

"This is a major discovery and will be a big blow to those involved in selling the drugs on.

"We have acted on information received from the community and I would urge anyone else who might have information about those involved in the production, sale or supply of drugs to call police."
