Edinburgh £90k Cannabis Swoop

Lothian and Borders Police have launched an investigation after a cannabis cultivation was discovered at a property in Edinburgh.

Officers searched the address on Marionville Road shortly after 4pm on Wednesday and discovered a large quantity of cannabis plants and cultivating equipment.

Approximately 300 plants were seized with an estimated value of £90,000.

Police today said a man has been detained in connection with the cultivation.

Sergeant Deborah Mitchell said her team was pleased to have seized the plants.

"We are delighted to have seized these plants and continue to urge the public to come forward if they think a property is being used to cultivate cannabis," she said.

"Over the next two weeks we will be running awareness conferences in Edinburgh to highlight to landlords and public service workers the tell-tale signs of an active cannabis cultivation, following the success of similar conferences in East and West Lothian."

Ms Mitchell continued: "These cultivations help to fund Serious and Organised Crime and with each one we take out of operation means we are able to put a dent in the activities of the criminal fraternities that plague our communities.

"Intelligence and assistance from the public is key to identifying cultivations and shutting them down. Anyone with information relating to a suspected drugs operation should contact police immediately."
