Man Jailed For Sex Attacks On Wife

A man from Gloucestershire has been jailed for a series of sexual assaults against his wife.

The 27-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the anonymity of his victim, was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment at Gloucester Crown Court.

The man committed the offences against his 19-year-old victim between October 2007 and November 2008 in Cheltenham.

Police said they hoped the outcome of this case will encourage more women experiencing sexual abuse in their own home to come forward.

The investigating officer, DC Jeff Manners, praised the victim for showing great courage and bravery throughout the investigation and court proceedings.

He said: "The victim in this case was very brave to give evidence as she did in court.

"This case reinforces our position on domestic abuse and sexual offences, in that complaints will be taken seriously and fully investigated, and victims will be given the appropriate care and support."

DS Manners added: "I would encourage anyone else experiencing domestic or sexual abuse or related issues to contact us or one of our partners so that the appropriate assistance can be given."
