Kidnap Boy May Be Freed
Just hours after a Foreign Office spokesman confirmed that one man had been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a British boy in Pakistan, police have said they are confident that a five-year-old who was kidnapped at gunpoint will be returned to his family. Sources said officers were questioning two arrested people "very close" to those suspected of taking Sahil Saeed. Sahil, from Oldham, Greater Manchester, and his father were at a house in the Punjab city of Jhelum on Wednesday when robbers broke in and seized the boy. Dog Burning Horror
A dog has been tied to a fence, covered in petrol and set on fire on a football field in Liverpool. Passers-by heard the cries of the female Staffordshire bull terrier-cross in Kirkdale, and tried to help, but the animal had to be put to sleep. The one-year-old dog had been missing for a few days, the RSPCA said.
Bloody Sunday Report Due
The Northern Ireland Secretary of State has said he hopes to be in a position to publish Lord Saville's report into Bloody Sunday within days of receiving it. The families had feared that the publication of the 5,000-page report, which took 12 years and cost £200m, could be delayed until the forthcoming general election was over. But after meeting relatives and the Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, Shaun Woodward reassured them he would attempt to make it available within days of him receiving it at the end of the month. Shaun Woodward was speaking in Londonderry on Thursday after meeting relatives of the 14 people killed by British soldiers on 30 January 1972. The report is to go to the Government in the week beginning 22 March.

Scotland's five mountain ski areas have had their best season since 2001 with spending by winter sports enthusiasts generating £25m, Ski-Scotland has said. Unprecedented falls of snow have been reported at CairnGorm, Glencoe, Glenshee, Nevis Range and the Lecht.
National body Ski-Scotland said more snow has been forecast meaning the season could last through to May. It said local businesses, such as bed and breakfasts, have also benefitted from the numbers of people skiing.

Twenty Dogs Die In East Yorkshire House Fire
Humberside Fire and Rescue have confirmed that twenty dogs have died in a fire in East Yorkshire. It is understood that a fire broke out at the home of a private dog breeder on Graingers Road, Hornsea, at about 19:00 on Saturday.

Police Appeal For Missing 16-Year-Old
Police have appealed for help in tracing 16-year-old Joseph Ogun, who has been missing since Monday, 07 September. Police said they are "increasingly concerned" for his welfare. He is described as a black boy, 5ft 8ins tall, of large build and with dark cropped hair. It is not known what he was last seen wearing.

Baby Dies After Being Bitten By Family Pet
A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a baby bitten by dog in Sunderland. The three-week-old baby boy died in hospital following an incident at his home in Falkland Road. Police were called to the address at 04:15 on Saturday, 20 June. It is understood that the baby had been bitten by the families pet dog.

Boy Dies After Falling Into River In Argyll
A 10-year-old boy has died after falling into a river in Argyll while on holiday with his family. Emergency services were called to the incident at 13:45 on Tuesday. The boy was rescued by a passer-by after getting into difficulties. He was airlifted to Glasgow for treatment, however he later died at Yorkhill Hospital.

10-Year-Old Boy Bitten By Police Dog
Police have launched an investigation after a boy was accidentally bitten by a police dog in his back garden. Officers were called to Western Road in Oldbury after a report of four men stealing copper wiring near to the train station. They were seen running away from the area and the copper wiring was found on a pathway nearby.
