Appeal Over Wisbech Robbery

Two men have robbed a courier of cash in Cambridgeshire as he was making a Post Office delivery.

It happened in Norwich Street, Wisbech at 12.45pm on Monday, police said today.

The offenders approached the courier as he was near his van armed with baseball bats, demanding money.

The courier placed a cash box on the ground and the men made off in the direction of Orange Grove and got into a waiting red Mitsubishi Shogun, which had also been stolen.

The shogun was later found abandoned in New Bridge Lane, a Cambridgeshire police spokesman said,

Both men wore dark-coloured hats or scarves to conceal their faces.

Detective Sergeant David Simpson said: "The two men involved would have been stood at the junction of Orange Grove and Norwich Street waiting for the right moment to rob the driver. I would like to speak to anyone who thinks they saw them.

"The shogun was stolen overnight between March 18 and 19 so we are also keen to hear from anyone who has seen the vehicle between its original theft and the robbery on Monday lunchtime."

DS Simpson added: "This is a busy location, as it is very close to the pedestrian crossing over Churchill Road, which goes over to Norwich Road, so potentially motorists held at those traffic lights on red may have seen something which could prove helpful."
