Clapton Murder Probe

Detectives have appealed for information and witnesses following a murder in Clapton.

Police were called at around 8.30pm last Monday to reports of someone shot at an address in Kingsmead Way E9.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found a woman who was pronounced dead at the scene. She was Gulistan Subasi, 26, a Turkish national.

A post-mortem gave cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.

An incident room has opened under DCI Jackie Sebire (HSCC).

DCI Sebire said: "Ms Subasi was callously shot at close range after answering a knock on the door to her mother's flat, which is reached via an alleyway off Kingsmead Way.

"As she collapsed on the doorstep, her killer made off from the scene along Kingsmead Way, heading towards Meeson Street E5."

The suspect is described as male, approximately 6ft tall, of slim build, wearing a light coloured hooded top [worn with hood up], light coloured trousers, and a rucksack/drawstring bag on his back. His face may have been covered and he may have been wearing gloves, police said.

"I appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting, including anyone who was inside or close to Aysal Food Market, situated below the flat, who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact us," DCI Sebire.

"I also appeal to anyone who was not in the area but may have information that can assist our enquiries, no matter how small or insignificant they feel it might be, to contact us."

On Wednesday 24 March a man, 27, was arrested in connection with the inquiry and taken to a north London police station. He was later bailed to return pending further inquiries.
