M-Way Service Area Ablaze
A large fire has started in a motorway service station on the M40 in Oxfordshire. About 75 firefighters have been called in 15 engines to Cherwell Valley Services, north of Bicester. A fire service spokesman said the fire had taken hold in the roof of the main building. Visitors have been evacuated from the area.
Acid Attack Victim Sobs
A man who was doused with acid over an alleged online affair with a married woman has broken down at the Old Bailey while giving evidence about the attack. Awais Akram broke down as he gave evidence about the night of the assault during which he was beaten, stabbed and had drain cleaner containing sulphuric acid poured over his head. He suffered 47% burns and was left disfigured by the attack in Leytonstone, east London, last July. He met Sadia Khatoon, of Walthamstow, on Facebook and MSN, the jury heard. Her brother Mohammed Vakas, 26, and cousin Mohammed Adeel, 20, both of Walthamstow, and a 17-year-old boy deny conspiracy to murder. Vakas has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, but his co-defendants deny the charge.
Scottish Hotel Jobs Boost
Up to 150 new full and part-time jobs are to be created at one of Glasgow's oldest hotels. The Grand Central Hotel, above Central Station, is due to reopen in September after a £20m refurbishment. Owners Principal Hayley are looking for staff in conference and banqueting, reservations, maintenance, reception, kitchen, events and finance.

£100,000 of support to increase Gaelic primary and early years capacity has been announced by the Scottish Government. The extra funding will help to satisfy demand for places at Edinburgh's Tollcross Primary, the Capital's Gaelic unit where 43 pupils are enrolled for primary one this August, a record intake
Ms Hsylop announced the funding to be identified as part of Gaelic agency, Bòrd na Gàidhlig's action plan.

BBC Trust Approve Gaelic Digital Service
The BBC Trust’s decision to approve proposals for a Gaelic Digital Service has been welcomed by Gaelic Media Service (GMS) and BBC Scotland. GMS and BBC Scotland will now begin the process of implementing their joint plans for the launch of the new service.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike
More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

Flash Floods Clean-Up In Somerset
A massive clear-up operation is underway after flash flooding hit large parts of Somerset. Torrential storms on Thursday lead to severe flooding which meant many families had to be evacuated. Motorists were warned to stay off the roads as many became out of bounds.

Major fire causes disruption in Manchester city centre
A major fire has destroyed a five-storey office building in Manchester, spreading to a second building. The fire broke out on Dale Street around 5:55am on Monday morning. It is understood that the initial fire has been brought under control, but the building is now in danger of collapsing.
