Carnage On Roads
Four men were killed and a fifth seriously injured when a car left the road and collided with a tree. The crash happened on the A4229 in Bridgend county between Porthcawl and a golf club at South Cornelly just before midnight on Thursday. South Wales Police said the men killed were from Hampshire and aged between 18 and 43. Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Calling Up Crime
A 28-year-old man, who was found with 600 mobile phones in this flat, has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to remove criminal property from the jurisdiction of England and Wales and concealing criminal property. Safaine Azzouz, of Alexandra Grove, FinsburyPark, N4, was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court, receiving five years for the first offence, which was linked to an earlier attempted exportation of a large quantity of stolen mobile phones, and two years for the second offence, to run concurrently. The charges relate to a huge number of mobile phones, dozens of cameras and a number of laptop computers police seized from the offender's property.

The former England footballer Paul Gascoigne has pleaded not guilty to drink-driving. He appeared at Northallerton Magistrates' Court in North Yorkshire accused of driving a Ford Transit van on 7 February at Leeming Bar while more than four times the limit. The 42-year-old also pleaded not guilty to driving without insurance. The case was adjourned to 28 July for trial.

MEPs vote to reduce mobile roaming charges
MEPs in Strasbourg have backed plans to reduce roaming charges for mobile telephone users within the European Union. The European Parliament voted in favour of an EU Regulation to substantially reduce the charges for using mobile phones between EU countries.

Mobile Phone Capacity Promised Boost
Plans to help increase mobile network capacity and deliver faster and more reliable mobile services for consumers were unveiled by the regulator, Ofcom this week. The proposals will allow mobile phone operators for the first time to trade the radio spectrum that mobiles use to communicate with mobile masts.
