Scottish Coach Crash Leaves 14 Hurt

A coach has overturned on the A9 in the Highlands.

Police said the Shearings private hire coach was carrying elderly people from Dornoch in the Highlands to Cheshire.

Fourteen people have been injured after it crashed two miles south of Dalwhinnie at about 9am. Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.

The injured have been taken to hospitals in Dundee, Perth and Inverness and Kingussie Health Centre.

Police said the injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

An 86-year-old woman has been taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness and two other passengers to Perth Royal Infirmary.

Ten injured - four women and six men - described as walking wounded were taken to Kingussie Health Centre. Five were being transferred to Raigmore.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said ambulances and a patient transport were sent to the scene. It added that the air ambulance was grounded because of concerns over volcanic ash.

Thirty-three passengers were on the coach - 17 men and 16 women.
