Youths Quizzed Over Stabbing

Youths are being being questioned over the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy.

Officers found the injured boy when they were called to reports of a disturbance at Home Park Recreation Ground, in Sydenham, at 6pm yesterday.

The teenager was pronounced dead soon after he arrived at hospital.

A police spokesman said a number of male youths were arrested close to the scene and remained in custody.

Police had been called at 6.15pm to a disturbance which was thought to be taking place in Home Park Recreation Ground which is bounded by Winchfield Road and Sydenham Road. Officers found a 16-year-old boy who had been stabbed.

A spokesman for London Ambulance Service said paramedics were called to Sydenham Road at 6.25pm.

"Staff treated a patient who had suffered cardiac arrest," he said. "Extensive efforts were made to resuscitate the patient both on the scene and on the way to hospital."

A police spokesman said: "We await formal identification and confirmation that next of kin are aware."

He said officers were keeping an open mind about the circumstances of the stabbing and any potential motive.

Police Shoot Man Following Stabbing Incident In Hersden
A man has been shot by police after being called to attend an incident in Hersden where a woman was stabbed. Police initially attended the scene at around 11.20pm on Sunday followed by firearms officers and police negotiators. The man and woman, who are members of the same family, are both in a critical condition in hospital.

Four Arrests Over Everton Stabbing
Police in Liverpool have made four arrests following the fatal stabbing of a boy in the city last week. Three men and a teenage boy are being held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. The men, aged 21, 20 and 18, and a 16-year-old boy are all from the Kirkdale area, Merseyside police said.

Teen Stab Fatality Is 25th In London
A post mortem examination is to take place today after the latest of a grim series of fatal stabbing incidents. The body of Shaquille Maitland-Smith - who was knifed in the stomach in Hackney, east London, on Saturday night - is to be examined by the pathologist today.

Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing Of Teen
Police in Liverpool are appealing for information following the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy outside a youth club. The teenager, identified by police as Joseph Lappin, was with two friends when he was attacked by a group of youths outside Shrewsbury House Youth Club, Langrove Street, Everton at 8.40pm on Monday evening.

Girl Convicted Of Teen Mum's Murder
A 15-year-old girl has been found guilty of murdering a young mum in North Tyneside. At Newcastle Crown Court on Monday, Judge David Hobson lifted an order banning the naming of Jordan Jobson, after she was found guilty of murdering 18-year-old Samantha Madgin.
