Facebook Chat Faces Security Flaw
One of the leading social networking sites used in the UK, Facebook, had to close down its 'chat' feature after it was discovered to have security flaws.
The security breach was uncovered by technology blog TechCrunch, who posted a video showing the exploit in action.
It targeted a flaw in Facebook's 'Preview My Profile' feature, intended to let you test your own privacy settings by seeing how they would appear to another specific user. But TechCrunch revealed, it actually gives you access to some features of that person's profile - including chat and friend requests.
Facebook admitted that for a limited period of time, friends of a user could view chat messages and pending friend requests.
The company said: "When we received reports of the problem, our engineers promptly diagnosed it and temporarily disabled the chat function. We also pushed out a fix to take care of the visible friend requests."
Facebook continues to make news for their privacy related fiascoes with this latest glitch.
In March a bug briefly revealed hidden e-mail addresses and in February, the site accidentally rerouted private messages to the wrong users.
