CCTV Image To Aid Murder Probe

Detectives investigating the murder of 37-year-old Errol McKenzie in Leyton are releasing CCTV footage of him taken shortly before his death, (pictured).

A reward of up £20,000 is now available to anyone able to provide information to the investigating team which would lead to the arrest and prosecution of the individual/s responsible.

The footage shows Mr McKenzie entering a convenience store on Lea Bridge Rd E10 at approximately 11.15pm on Saturday, 10 April. He purchases alcohol before leaving the shop and turning right.

An hour and a half later he was shot dead in Seymour Road playing fields, off Lea Bridge Road E10.

Trident detectives continue to appeal for witnesses and information to the murder.

Police were called at around 1am on Sunday 11 April to reports of a man suffering gunshot wounds in the playing fields.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended, and Mr McKenzie was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem examination gave the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.

An incident room has opened under Detective Inspector Lucy Kilgour. She said: "We are releasing this footage in the hope that someone will recognise Mr McKenzie and remember seeing him that night.

"At this stage it would appear that he was a completely innocent victim, and it remains unclear how he has found himself the victim of a callous murder."

There has been no arrests at present. Enquiries continue.

Anyone with information that may assist the inquiry should call the incident room on 020 8733 4704; if you wish to remain anonymous please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
