Afghanistan Death Toll Reaches 290

There has been another fatal attack on UK service personnel in Afghanistan, this time bringing the tragic toll to 290.

A Royal Marine died in a blast today, the Ministry of Defence has said.

He was killed in an explosion in the Sangin district of Helmand province, while taking part in a foot patrol with soldiers from the Afghan National Army.

The incident took place on Wednesday and the soldier's next of kin have been informed.

Lieutenant Colonel James Carr-Smith, spokesman for Task Force Helmand, said: "He died in the course of his duty seeking to improve the lives of the people of Sangin."

British Soldier Killed In Afghanistan
A British soldier has been killed in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed. The soldier, from 36 Engineer Regiment, was killed in an explosion in the Sangin area of Helmand province on Monday. It has emerged that the soldier may have died in a 'friendly fire' incident.

Solider Shot Dead In Helmand
A British solider has been killed in a gun attack in the Afghan province of Helmand. The Ministry of Defence said the A Company trooper, with the 4th Battalion The Rifles (4 RIFLES) died as a result of small arms fire near Sangin. He was part of the 3 RIFLES Battle Group on patrol yesterday morning.

Two Killed In Afghan Blast
Two British soldiers have been killed in a blast in Afghanistan's Helmand province, the Ministry of Defence confirmed this morning. They were from The Royal Scots Borderers, 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (1 SCOTS), part of the 3 RIFLES Battle Group. The explosion happened near Sangin yesterday evening.
