On-Run Brit Shot In Spanish Bar

Feuding drug gangs were being blamed for the virtual execution of a UK citizen who has been shot dead in a Spanish town on the Costa del Sol.

Dan Smith, 26, from Billericay, Essex, was himself on the run from detectives in Britain for an attempted gangland murder.

Drinkers watched in horror as he was gunned down outside The Lounge bar in Riviera del Sol, Mijas, near Malaga, in southern Spain on Saturday night.

The killer was on the back of a motorbike driven by another man and fired several shots into the Lounge Bar, a British-run drinking spot.

Smith was shot three times in the face, and the gunman fired three other rounds, which missed.

However, while drugs links were initially the main line of the police enquiry, it has now also been reported that there had been a row "because an Irish bloke was annoying some of the other drinkers, especially the women".

According to other customers, the victim stood up and said to the Irish man: "Why don't you get out of here - nobody wants you here", and the man involved responded, "you wait there, I will be back in a minute" with the victim being shot dead shortly afterwards.

Mr Smith was sought by the UK police over the shooting in 2007 of an Essex businessman who survived but lost three fingers.
