Deadly Blaze Man Held
A man has been arrested after two children died and their mother was left in a critical condition after a house fire in Bradford. Fire crews were called to the house in Hendford Drive in the Pollard Park area of the city early on Tuesday. Police confirmed a 10-year-old girl died at the scene and an eight-year-old boy died shortly after arriving at hospital. They said that a 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and that a 30-year-old woman was currently receiving treatment at Pinderfields Hospital after suffering potentially life-threatening injuries.

A murdered child's mother has urged the families of those behind the fatal stabbing to give information to the police. Shakira Olumegbon, 53, said: "I know a mother, a father, a brother or sister knows who has done this. It's not revenge I'm after... We have to stop this." She was speaking after her 15-year-old boy, Zac Olumegbon, was stabbed to death in an ambush outside his south London school on Friday.
Naked Teacher Jailed
A primary school assistant who was caught with thousands of indecent images of children has been jailed for seven years and 10 months. The court heard that he also took a video of himself standing naked next to a photo of one of his pupils. Syd Beg admitted downloading the images at his home in Glasgow's Maryhill area between January 2000 and January 2010. As well as the original 21,000 pictures, the 54-year-old was also caught with a further 35,000 pictures of children from the school where he worked.
Gate Death Girl Recalled
The family of a five-year-old girl who died after being trapped by a sliding automatic gate have paid tribute to her. Karolina Maria Golabek, a pupil at Penybont Primary School, died after the incident at a block of flats in Bridgend, Wales, on Saturday afternoon. Police and health and safety experts are investigating her death. "She was a very happy, fun-loving, daughter," said her parents and brother in a statement.
Capital Low Pay Probed
Three Low Pay Commissioners will visit London on 7 July on a fact-finding visit about the National Minimum Wage. This is one of a number of visits the Low Pay Commission is making around the UK during 2010 to gather information on how the minimum wage is operating. Susan Anderson, Frances O'Grady and Heather Wakefield will meet a number of workers and workers' organisations in London to hear first hand about the impact that the National Minimum Wage is having on them. Low Pay Commissioner Heather Wakefield said: "Hearing directly from those affected by the National Minimum wage is an important part of the Commission's work and informs our recommendations to the government. Our visits take us around the UK and we welcome the opportunity to hear how the National Minimum Wage has affected people in London."

Possible refunds for holiday camp staff
Staff working for holiday camps such as Butlins could be refunded pay after they were charged for electricity in their accommodation. The GMB union said that around 20,000 employees, working for Butlins, Haven Holidays and British Holiday in 50 camps across the UK might be eligible for refunds.

Government Approves New £6.08 Minimum Wage Rate
The Government has today accepted the independent Low Pay Commission’s (LPC) recommendations for this year’s National Minimum Wage (NMW) rates. The following rates will come into effect on 1 October 2011:The adult rate will increase by 15p to £6.08 an hourThe rate for 18-20 year olds will increase by 6p to £4.

New rules come into force tomorrow to ensure that thousands of workers get a fair deal on tips and wages. The changes make it illegal for businesses to use tips to bring staff pay up to minimum wage levels. They come into effect on the same day as new increases to national minimum wage rates which will benefit up to one million people.

The Green Party is calling for a £10 minimum wage for everyone by 2020. The party believes every worker over the age of 16 should be paid at least the minimum wage and would abolish the age-based differential rates currently in place.
