Man Jailed Over Car Theft Death

A man who knocked down and killed a woman as he attempted to steal her car had been jailed indefinitely.

Shaun Higgins, 24, of Church Street in Leigh, Greater Manchester, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Lynda Hankey, 42, at an earlier hearing, as well as aggravated vehicle taking and causing death by dangerous driving while disqualified from driving.

He was jailed for a minimum of six years at Liverpool Crown Court today.

Mother-of-two Ms Hankey, 42, was struck by her MG sports car as Higgins attempted to steal the vehicle from outside her home in Wigan last January. She died later in hospital. The incident was witnessed by her female partner Jamie Hudson and her five-year-old son.
