Three Die In Gas Blast

Three people have been killed in a gas explosion in Edinburgh, the Scottish Ambulance Service has said. The emergency crews were called to Slateford Road at about 3pm. The ambulance service said three people died and one person was injured in the blast and Lothian and Borders police said the explosion took place at a flat. See: Castlerock Gas Tragedy Teens Named

Engine Fire Grounds Plane

All 213 passengers have disembarked safely from a Monarch Airlines plane forced back to Birmingham Airport after a suspected engine fire shortly after take-off. The 6.45pm flight ZB932 to Tenerife landed back in Birmingham ten minutes later on Tuesday evening.

House Prices 'Rise'

A tiny rise has been recorded in the latest house prices index amid mixed signals on the housing market. They increased by 0.6% in July, reversing the 0.6% fall seen in June, according to the latest house price survey from Halifax. It comes hot on the heels of Nationwide's report showing house prices fell by 0.5% in July, continuing the stream of mixed messages on the housing market seen throughout the year.

Sex Crime Appeal

The police have appealed for information after a Newbury woman was sexually assaulted in Wokingham on Saturday. It happened at about 12.30am, when the woman was walking away from the Spin bar in Wokingham with three men, when she was sexually assaulted near Emmbrook Road, in woodland close to Arthur Road. Police are keen to identify the three men the victim was with when leaving the bar and anyone with any information is urged to contact the Loddon Valley priority crime team on 0845 8 505 505, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

UK Property Prices 'Still Falling'
House prices in the three months to October were 1.2% lower than in the preceding three months, according to the Halifax. The financial services provider, part of the Lloyds Banking Group, said prices in October were 2.3% lower than at the end of 2009 on a seasonally adjusted basis (-1.2% unadjusted).

UK House Prices Increase
UK house prices in the three months to February 2015 were 2.6% higher than the previous three months, according to the Halifax. However, annual price growth eased, from 8.5% in January to 8.3%, and is below last July's peak of 10.2%.

House Prices Drop By 10.5%
House prices have dropped by 10.5% over the last year, according to the latest research by Nationwide Building Society. The price of a typical house has fallen to £164,654, the fastest annual rate in almost 18 years. January House Prices Show Slight Increase
House prices in England and Wales increased by just 0.9% in January, according to the latest monthly figures from Land Registry. The increase takes the average house price to £186,045.
