Renewed Search In Suzy Lamplugh Probe

Detectives investigating the disappearance of London estate agent Suzy Lamplugh have begun a fresh search for her body.

Miss Lamplugh, 25, disappeared on July 28, 1986, after leaving her office in Fulham, south-west London to show a client, known only as 'Mr Kipper', a house in Shorrolds Road.

She was declared legally dead, presumed murdered, in 1994, but her body has never been found.

Police are searching an area between Pershore and the village of Drakes Broughton. It is understood that the area being searched is around three miles from the site of the disused Norton Army Barracks, which was previously searched in December 2000 and February 2001 in connection with the case.

According to reports, the search is being carried out because a new witness came forward.

Convicted killer John Cannan had been the prime suspect in the case. He had been released from a London hostel just days before Miss Lamplugh's disappearance.

Cannan, 56, from Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, has been questioned several times in connection with the case, but has always denied involvement.

In 2002, the Crown Prosecution Service said that there was insufficient evidence to charge him.

Cannan is currently serving a life sentence for a series of attacks, including the rape and murder of Shirley Banks in 1987.
