Postman Pat 'Delivers'

The iconic children's' cartoon character, Postman Pat can now be seen in all 12,000 Post Office branches across the UK through the sale of badges featuring the cartoon character out on his deliveries along side his cat companion Jess. The sale of the five specially designed badges is part of Post Office's support for the Barnardo's Believe in Children Appeal - a month long event taking place during September which aims to help raise funds for Barnado's work with some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the UK. The badges are available from all Post Office branches for a suggested donation of £1.

Co Down Body 'Not Suspicious'

A crime is not suspected as police probe the shock discovery of a body on a Co Down beach. The body - believed to be that of a woman in her mid to late 30s - was found on Ballyholme Beach. A PSNI said "there are no suspicious circumstances" but wouldn't comment further on local reports that the tragic victim is the same individual as spotted last night falling into the sea at Bangor Pier. However, it is thought the woman has been identified as someone the PSNI were seeking as a 'missing person'. There are no further details at present.

Doctor Appeals Hearing

A German doctor who accidentally killed a patient during his first out-of-hours shift in Cambridgeshire looks set to face an inquiry in Germany. Dr Daniel Ubani gave David Gray, 70, an overdose of diamorphine in 2008. He has since been struck off the UK register by the General Medical Council (GMC). He won a court action banning German medical authorities from investigating, but local government officials in Arsnberg who employ him have said they will now hold a hearing. They had planned to make Dr Ubani sit a test to help assess his medical competence.

Wildlife Park Scare

Police and health and safety officials are investigating after a mother and son were seriously injured by a falling tree at a Pembrokeshire wildlife park. The 28-year-old woman and her four-year-old son from Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, were flown to hospital in Swansea with serious injuries. The accident was at Manor Wildlife Park, St Florence, near Tenby.

Offshore Energy

Scotland's offshore wind industry could create 28,000 direct jobs and generate £7.1bn of investment over the next decade, according to a new report. Scottish Renewables said the sector provided Scotland with its greatest economic opportunity in a generation. The study suggested a further 20,000 posts could be created indirectly. Publication of the report comes a week after plans for the world's first floating wind farm were announced by First Minister Alex Salmond.
