Kayak Found In Search For Missing Shrewsbury Woman

Coastguards searching for a missing canoeist have found a kayak, it has been reported.

Elizabeth Ashbee, 53, from Shrewsbury, went missing off the coast of Anglesey in north Wales on Sunday afternoon.

She was last seen heading through rocks at Ynys Feurig, or Starvation Island, close to Rhosneigr, around 2:30pm on Sunday.

An experienced kayaker, Ms Ashbee had become separated from the four colleagues she was with when they hit bad weather.

The alarm was raised by members of the group Ms Ashbee was with around 6:30pm that day and an area of up to 60 square miles has been covered in the search, which has involved coastguards, lifeboats and rescue helicopters.

The kayak was found earlier today, but coastguards say that it is too soon to say if the craft belongs to Ms Ashbee.

Coastguard teams have been patrolling beaches in the search for Ms Ashbee, while an inshore search is also being conducted by police.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Holyhead Coastguard on: 01407 762051 or North Wales Police on: 0845 6071001 or 1002.
