Queen Opts For Silent Night
Due to "difficult financial circumstances" facing the nation, the Queen has scrapped the staff Christmas party.
Buckingham Palace becomes the party palace every two years as the Queen pays for Christmas celebrations for her 600 strong staff.
However, a spokesman said: "The Queen is acutely aware of the difficult economic circumstances facing the country.
"It was decided it was appropriate for the Royal Household to show restraint and not hold the party this year."
It is said the party would have cost around £50,000.
At previous Christmas parties the Queen, Prince Philip and other members of the Royal Family have mixed with staff and even hit the dancefloor.

Five new residential areas that will be built on the future Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park have been named following a public competition. Almost 2,000 people submitted their suggestions to the Olympic Park Legacy Company, inspired by factors such as the future design for the area, its history or the Games themselves.

M&S Agency Workers Protest Over Conditions And Pay
A protest has been outside a Marks & Spencer store in Slough over work conditions and pay inequalities. The protesters work at an M&S distribution warehouse and describe working conditions as "Victorian", complaining about a six-day working week and pay inequalities. M&S said they are "aware of the issues raised".

Queen And Prince Philip To Meet Pope Frances in Rome
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will visit Rome on Thursday 3rd April, where they will have an audience with the Pope, according to Buckingham Palace. "Her Majesty and His Royal Highness are visiting at the invitation of the President of Italy," said palace officials.
