Mother Pleads Guilty To Son's Bleach Death

A court has heard how the mother of a 12-year-old autistic boy killed him by making him drink bleach.

Satpal Kaur Singh, 44, denied murder and pleaded guilty to manslaughter at the Old Bailey in London.

Singh, from Barking in east London, admitted the charge by reason of diminished responsibility.

Prosecutors accepted the plea after assessments revealed she was suffering from a mental disorder.

It is believed the mother feared social services would take her son Ajit away from her.

On February 9 this year, Singh had a meeting with council staff regarding Ajit's care.

During the meeting, she refused to co-operate with social workers but had appeared "calm".

Just hours later, Singh made her son drink a cup of bleach.

She later rang police and said: "I've just murdered my son and I've tried to kill myself."

The court heard how those who attended the meeting did not have "any concerns about her immediate behaviour."
