Downham Murder Victim Identified

The 86-year-old victim of a murder in Bromley has been identified. On Sunday, 20 February, police attended an address in Oakridge Road, Downham, after concerns were expressed over the welfare of the occupant. London Ambulance Service also attended and on arrival officers found a woman suffering head injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as Jean (known as Pat) Jobson, 86. Next of kin have been informed. A post mortem examination will begin today at Greenwich Mortuary. Officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating and an incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector, Cliff Lyons.

No arrests have been made at this stage and police appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information to call the incident room.

Man Jailed For Fulham Rape

A man has been jailed for six years at Isleworth Crown Court following a violent rape in Fulham in October 2010. Babashola Ogunnaike, 38, a security guard of West London had previously pleaded guilty to rape at a case management hearing on 6 January. The victim, 19, was on her way home in the early hours of Sunday, 17 October and was waiting at a bus stop in Fulham Broadway when Ogunnaike approached her and tried to start a conversation. She got onto her bus and he followed, asking her to move over when she sat down so he could sit with her. He continued to talk to her during the bus journey and at one point took her mobile phone out of her hand and entered his telephone number into it. The victim got off the bus in Fulham Cross and Ogunnaike followed her again whilst continuing to talk to her, as they turned into Lurgan Avenue he grabbed the victim before punching her in the face. She fell onto the road and he continued to punching her before throttling and raping her. He then ran off and the victim made her way home and called her boyfriend who phoned police. Enquiries on the number left on the victim's phone by the suspect quickly revealed Ogunnaike's name and address. Officers visited the premises and it was confirmed that he owned clothing identical to that seen on CCTV and described by the victim. Ogunnaike was traced to his work place and was arrested later that morning, following interview he was charged with rape and remanded in custody to appear at West London Magistrates Court.

Man Murdered In Southall

A murder investigation is underway following the death of man in Southall. On Thursday 10 February officers attended an address in Sussex Road, Southall regarding a man found dead at the location. Officers were alerted to the death by the landlord of the premises. Following an initial post-mortem examination the death is now being treated as murder. A further examination at Uxbridge mortuary did not establish a formal cause of death and police await the results of further tests. Officers believe they know the identity of the deceased, a 32-year-old man, and have contacted his next of kin in India, but await formal identification. An incident room has opened at Hendon under DCI Lee Presland (HSCC). Anyone with any information is asked to contact the incident room. A 38-year-old man was arrested in connection with the inquiry, and taken to a west London police station but was later bailed to return in April pending further inquiries.

Cousins Jailed For Blackmail
Two cousins who terrified a man with threatening phone calls and text messages have been jailed. Daniel Brown, 21, of Barton Road, Stretford and Michael Brown, 22, of Kingsway Park, Davyhulme, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit blackmail. They were both sentenced to 16 months in jail at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

Teenager Arrested in Rhys Investigation
Police investigating the murder of Merseyside schoolboy Rhys Jones have arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of possessing a firearm. The teenager was arrested after police raided a house in Norris Green in Liverpool.

Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Murder In Kent
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in Kent. At around 7.15pm on Tuesday (19 May), police were called to a property in Hectorage Road, Tonbridge. Two men, aged 34 and 54, had sustained injuries which police believed to be knife wounds. The 54-year-old victim died at the scene. The 34-year-old was taken to hospital.

Rapist's Third Victim Recognised Attacker On Facebook
A 28-year-old man has been jailed for life for rape after one of his victims recognised his picture on Facebook. Shaun Hopkins was already serving a life jail term for the rape of two women in Liverpool, when a third victim came forward, according to a report by the BBC.
